The NPCC Family

The membership of the NPCC is in accordance with the provisions of the National Police Cadet Corps Act (NPCC Act), Chapter 199.
Membership of the NPCC can be divided into the following categories :-
  1. Cadets
  2. Cadet Inspectors
  3. NPCC Officers
  4. Honorary Officers
  5. Honorary Instructors
  6. NPCC Alumni
Cadets
To enrol into NPCC as a cadet, the NPCC Act requires the following pre-requisites :-
  • a student of age 12 and above
  • in a secondary one class or equivalent
  • is citizen or permanent resident of Singapore
  • has obtained the consent of parent or guardian
  • make a statutory declaration under NPCC Act
If you meet the above criterias and wish to join us, you may approach the teacher in-charge of your schools' NPCC unit for registration. The next cadet recruitment will be in Jan/Feb 2000.

Cadet Inspectors
 
The Cadet Inspector rank is created by the NPCC Council. A cadet is eligible for promotion to the rank of Cadet Inspector when the he/she attains a minimum rank of Sergeant in NPCC. A Cadet Inspector will automatically be discharged from the Corps when he attains the age of 22.

Candidates for Cadet Inspectors are norminated by the teacher officers from the respective NPCC units. There are 2 Cadet Inspector courses per year, one each during the June and December school holidays. Under normal circumstances, each school will norminate 2 cadets for each run.

NPCC Officers
 
The Minister may appoint NPCC Officers among the teaching staffs of any schools or from among the members of the Corps.

Teachers recommended by the school principals are required to undergo an Officers' course before he can be officially appointed as an NPCC Officer. There are 2 teacher courses per year, one each during the mid-year and year-end school holidays.

Honorary Officers
 
The Minister may also appoint suitable people as Honorary Officers of the Corps. The honorary officers are traditional selected from the undergraduates from both National University of Singapore and the Nanyany Technological University, including the National Institute of Education. In addition, the candidate must
  • undergo a selection interview
  • be medically fit
  • has successfully completed a Basic Officers' Course 
before he is officially appointed. The next recruitment for Hornoary Officers is in June/July 1999. Those who are interested please pay attention to the recruitment booth during the NUS and NTU freshmen orientation.

Honorary Instructors
 
Under the provisions provided under Sec 8(2) of the NPCC Act, Cap 199, the Minister may appoint any person who is not a member of the Corps to be an Honorary Instructor of the Corps. He must
  • be an ex-NPCC cadet holding a minimum rank of Sergeant
  • undergo a selection interview
  • be recommended by a secondary school principal
